Cabbage Salad Recipe

This is a yummy summer salad that I make all of the time and it is super easy. It makes a ton so Eric and I eat it for dinner a couple nights and then he will take it to work with him for lunch a couple of days.

You will need..
4 tab. sesame seeds
1/2 cup slivered almonds
1 small head of cabbage- sliced thinly
1 pkg. Chicken Top Ramen
4 green onions- chopped

Break the Top Ramen noodles into small pieces on a cookie sheet. Add almonds and sesame seeds to noodles on cookie sheet and toast in 350 degree oven for 5-7 minutes or until golden brown. Mix ingredients together just before serving.

Dressing..
2 tab. sugar
1/2 cup vegetable oil
1/2 tea. salt
3 tab. red wine vinegar
1/4 tea. pepper
1 dry spice packet from Chicken Top Ramen
1/2 tea. Accent seasoning

Mix all ingredients together. Shake the dressing together and cool in the fridge. Put the dressing on the salad just before serving.

I don't love the taste of cabbage so you have to be sure to chop it super thin.

If I am making this for dinner, I will warm up some of this chicken from Costco and cut it up in cubes and put it in the salad. So Yummy!

Summer Snack and Fault in Our Stars

Well, it is official. This is my all time favorite summer snack. We have this great grocery store here and I found my chips and hummus. I eat this stuff everyday for lunch and it feels me right up. It is not super unhealthy either so that is a major plus.
I have to show off my new onion googles. I great family friend sent these to me and I am LOVING THEM! I was chopping up an onion the other day and my eyes were watering and burning so bad. Then I remembered I had onion googles and I threw them on and they work so good. Everyone needs some of these.

This is Eric's all time favorite snack. I go all the way to Costco to get this big box so he can put them in his drawer at work. I have no idea how he goes through all of these as fast as he does.
There is a great story behind this picture so I thought that I would share. Eric was traveling last week for work and it was a rainy day I decided that I was going to do the Costco shopping that day. It is a 40 minute drive there and then back. We usually go on Saturdays but I had nothing going on so I thought I would do it. I drove down there fine and did all of the shopping and got it all loaded in the car. I started driving back and it starting pouring! When it rains in Texas, it rains hard! I couldn't even see the car in front of me. I got home and realized that I had to carry it all inside, in the rain. It took me 4 trips but I got it all in and was drenched by the end of it all. I set up everything on our kitchen table for a picture and sent it to Eric. I told him how horrible it was and that I would never do that again. This was the second time I have done this without him and I am for sure waiting for him next time. His response was,"That's my Girl!" :)

I finished Fault In Our Stars the other night! I have to say I loved the book but not the ending. I am going to go see the movie this week and see which one I like better. It was a great read though if you need a good book to read!

Boston

Every year, my dad has the Savage Annual Leadership Conference. This year it took place in Boston. Morgan had cheer camp and Macie had her end of year dance recital on the same days so my mom felt like she had to stay home this year. My dad invited me to go with him and I was so excited! I flew from Houston into Boston and met my dad there. It was so fun to spend time with him for a couple days.
We did a service project for the Boston Children's Hospital. We went to Target and bought everything that the kids needed and then delivered it to the hospital.

We took a tour around Boston on a Duck Boat. These boats are used on the streets and then they can go into the water as well.

We went to Fenway Park where the Boston Red Sox play. They rented out the stadium and we had dinner there and just played around. This was super cool!

(I have no idea what I am doing in this picture) My dad looks great though!

The week was full of meetings for my dad but we of course found some time to go to Anthropologie and do some shopping and we had a lot of fun spending time together.

So glad this lady lives in Houston! She is a life saver!

Besides spending time with my dad and my other family that was there, my favorite part about Boston was remembering my Grandpa Neal. He was the last of the 3 brothers that passed away. He passed away in November and they did a big tribute to him while we were there. I enjoyed hearing stories about him and everyone talking about how much they loved him. It was incredible to be there and see what an incredible company my Grandpa and his 2 brothers have built. I know they all 3 are in heaven proud of what it has and will continue to become. I love you forever and ever Grandpa!

Come Unto Christ

The missionaries were over a couple of weeks ago and shared this video with Eric and I. I listen to it often and I just love the message that is has. Whenever you are having a bad day, this is a video to listen to and watch often. It really brings so much peace into my life. Eric and I just got back from doing a session at the Houston temple and I was reminded once again, how grateful I am for the gospel and the blessing of eternal families.
Have a happy sunday tomorrow!

Pina Coladas

The Cecil's have Pina Coladas at their house on hot summer days! These are so good. Of course I had to pick up some umbrellas so we can feel like we are in Hawaii. Aloha!

Cecil's to Visit

This past week, Eric's parents and sister came to see us here in Houston. It was fun to have some visitors. We don't get to see them very often because they live in West Virginia so it was fun to spend time together. We did lots of relaxing, playing games, eating yummy food, and just spending time together.

We went to cheer on the Houston Astros at the baseball game. That was super fun! There is Astros stuff in every grocery store that I walk into. It is fun to live in a state where there is a MLB, NBA, and NFL team. I guess when you live in the 4th largest city that is a given.

Eric took off a couple days while they were here so we took them to the Temple, to check out Costco, the Museum of Fine Arts in Houston (Eric's sister is an art major so she really wanted to go), and The Galleria (The best mall out there and the closest Nordstrom to us. We have to drive an hour each way to get there. The one five minutes away will be done in September). Thank goodness! We also went to the Taco Stand which is my favorite Tex-Mex place out here and Eric and his Dad had to go try some Texas BBQ of course.

We had a great time! I made them my favorite blueberry muffins and there is just nothing like fresh fruit from Costco. We love having visitors. It helps the move far away from family much easier.

We have a guest bedroom and bathroom all set up now so anyone can come visit Houston, TX and see us!
